Game: (457) New England Patriots at (458) Houston Texans

Betting Line Provider: Consensus Line
Play Rating: 5%
Play: Total Over 47.0 (-110)

Play: 5% Over 47 (-108) 4% at 48.5 3% at 49.5 No play 51

Analysis: New England travels down to Houston to take on the Texans. The Patriots have had to play in the Northeast their past 3 games with not ideal weather for points yet they scored at least 23 points in their last 3 games 2 of those games against pretty good defenses with the Bills and Ravens. Coming off a big win against the Ravens on MNF Cam and Bill have some momentum heading down to play inside against Houston defense who has given up 30 points in 6 games so far and over 20 every game except 1 game against the jags (not counting my 4% over last week when they were in Cleveland) The Texans also have proven to be able to put up points this season especially at home. I expect Watson to have a big game on the ground and Cobb in the slot to be his leading WR in yards. I think this game will be a shootout and will come down to a FG at the end. I see this total going above 50.

Prediction Machine NFL PICK: Philadelphia Eagles +3.5

Why will Philadelphia cover the spread?

Baker Mayfield’s performance has dropped off a cliff under pressure throughout his career, and his numbers this season are especially bleak. Without being pressured, Mayfield has completed 125 of 184 attempts (67.9%), produced 7.9 yards per attempt (YPA), 14 TDs, and 3 INTs for a 108.9 passer rating. When Mayfield has seen pressure this season, he’s 24 of 59 (40.7%), has posted 4.2 YPA, 1 TD, and 4 INTs alongside a 30.8 passer rating (data from PFF). The difference is clearly massive. The Eagles have been very successful generating pressure this season, having pressured QBs on 25.3% of opponent dropbacks (sixth most) while recording 31 sacks (third most). They’ve managed these numbers while blitzing just 23.6% of the time, which is the seventh lowest rate in the league (Pro Football Reference).
Philadelphia should be able to exploit a Browns secondary that has been very poor throughout the season. Their overall numbers look much better thanks to their wind-aided performances against the Raiders and Texans, which saw Derek Carr and Deshaun Watson combine to complete 35 of 59 attempts for 274 yards (5.07 YPA). To illustrate how much of an outlier those performances are, consider that the Rams’ defense leads the NFL with 5.7 yards per pass attempt allowed this season. In the Browns other seven games, Cleveland has surrendered 7.52 yards per attempt to opposing quarterbacks, which would rank 27th in the NFL. The Eagles’ passing attack has gotten healthier in recent weeks as Jalen Reagor, Dallas Goedert, and Alshon Jeffery have all returned to the field.

The Dolphins have seen their point totals inflated recently due to the performance of the defense and special teams, and their offense will face a Broncos defense that ranks a respectable 13th in points per drive despite some tough matchups leading to big point totals allowed in recent weeks. The Broncos offense is either going to start Brett Rypien or a banged-up Drew Lock, and I don't see them scoring much against this Miami defense that's playing well. A total of 45 isn't that high in 2020, but it's a bar I think these teams will have trouble clearing, though I'm getting in now in case the total drops any lower.

With this line moving well off the lookahead number and the Patriots coming off a big win on national TV, this is the type of spot where I'd look to fade the favorite. But the matchup is just too perfect for the Pats, taking a dangerous rushing attack into a game against the league's worst run defense. The Texans have given up 200-plus rushing yards three times this year, and their only two wins have come against the Jaguars. I trust Bill Belichick to solve this limited offense and walk away with another win, and getting this number under 3 is a definite value for bettors, though I'm not ready to fully buy in to the Patriots being a playoff-caliber team.

My model says the Dolphins cover almost 60 percent of the time, so you're getting value at this number. Miami is riding a five-game winning streak, with rookie QB Tua Tagovailoa under center for the last three. The Dolphins are averaging 30 points on the road while the Broncos rank in the bottom 10 in the league in scoring (20.7 points). Denver also is 1-3 at home. Take Miami.

ATLANTA +5
This pick is not all about injured QB Drew Brees, though the drop-off to James Winston or Taysom Hill is substantial. Since Raheem Morris replaced Dan Quinn as coach, the Falcons are 3-1 straight up, with the only loss occurring on the final play. The bye week came in handy, especially for oft-ailing WR Julio Jones, who has had two monster receiving games (137 yards apiece) and a 97-yarder with Morris in charge. Atlanta has covered in all but one of its last eight road games.

"Andy Reid off the bye" has been music to bettors' ears for years (Reid is 18-3 off the bye in his career, including beating the Raiders 40-9 last year), and there are other reasons to expect a Chiefs cover here. K.C. will be motivated to avenge its only loss, and Reid seems irritated by the victory lap Raiders buses took after that Week 5 game. The Raiders have won three in a row, but one was aided by crazy wind (Browns) and another by an overturned TD (Chargers). The Chiefs will be rested and ready; I want to take them while the line is less than a TD.

Baltimore gives up 4.5 yards per carry and faces a rested Derrick Henry, as the Titans played on Thursday in Week 10. The Ravens are just 5-13 ATS in their last 18 games as home favorites. Grab the points.

The Vikings are on a short week after three straight division wins, so the potential for a letdown is there. But this team has looked completely different since the bye. The young defense is improving, and the offense should keep moving efficiently behind Dalvin Cook. Minnesota outplayed Chicago far more than the 19-13 score indicated. Now that this line has fallen to the key number, I'm laying it and expecting the Vikings to continue their playoff push.

Versatile Rams lineman Joseph Noteboom, tasked with replacing injured left tackle Andrew Whitworth, will give up some pressures but I don't think he'll be a turnstile. L.A. came out of its bye refreshed and is well-positioned to not only harass Tom Brady, but to blanket his top weapons. The Bucs have struggled in primetime -- getting blown out by the Saints, losing by one to the Bears and squeaking out a two-point win over the Giants. Grab the points.

PIT @ JAC | 11/22 | 1:00 PM ESTYESTERDAY 12:29 PM
The Jaguars have covered two straight with Jake Luton at quarterback. James Robinson has rushed for 99 yards in three straight games and will get a monster workload here to try to slow down the Steelers' pass rush. Since losing linebacker Devin Bush, the Steelers are giving up 4.9 yards per carry. Moreover, Pittsburgh could be caught looking ahead to its Thanksgiving rematch with Baltimore. On the road against lesser, non-division opponents, Mike Tomlin and Ben Roethlisberger tend to get wins, not blowouts. See Week 9 at Dallas. Grab the points.

Bengals rookie QB Joe Burrow looked sharp in his three games prior to getting roughed up by the Steelers. All three of those games were shootouts that went Over the total and I think he’ll be very effective against the Washington defense. Washington coach Ron Rivera is letting Alex Smith sling the ball and having success moving it, and the Bengals' defense won’t resist much. Take the Over.

I think Kansas City, coming off its bye, is going to hand it to Las Vegas. The Chiefs have a score to settle. The Raiders have feasted on turnovers lately, but K.C. does not turn it over much. Jon Gruden has done a great job, but the Raiders will get their comeuppance Sunday.

Miami can beat you in a number of ways: Defense, special teams, the ground game or Tua Tagovailoa. I don't think the travel is going to slow down the Dolphins. Denver is poorly coached and it doesn't matter who starts at QB for the Broncos. Miami will keep rolling.

It's time to admit the Colts are good. Frank Reich is an excellent coach, they have a strong offensive line and the defense is playing very well. Indy is solid on both lines of scrimmage. I like the way Philip Rivers is playing lately, while the Packers have been unimpressive in two of their last three outings.

With Michael Thomas, Alvin Kamara, Latavius Murray and the other weapons, I don't think Atlanta can handle the Saints. The Falcons are 3-1 since they fired Dan Quinn, but none of those wins came against any team as good as New Orleans. Lay the points.

Something's wrong with Russell Wilson, who's committed 10 turnovers in the past four games. Seattle is 1-3 in that stretch. The Seahawks have no defense and Kyler Murray, who's playing great, should have a huge night. I think the Cardinals will end up winning this division.
